|Joanne Tokaryk ARAD, AISTD(Dip.)
Joanne received her professional training with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Professional division and was fortunate to study with world-renowned teachers. She performed with Alberta Ballet, Graz Opernhaus Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens as well as the Nutcracker tour with RWB.
In 1983 she developed The Dance Centre to offer classes for all ages and disciplines. For the past 28 years she has shared her passion for dance teaching thousands of students some who have attained professional careers as dancers or teachers.
Joanne has received numerous choreographic awards and many students have been awarded scholarships and awards through the years. She holds the Advanced RAD ballet certificate as well as the ISTD Associate and Associate Diploma. She is currently continuing to attain qualifications to become an ISTD ballet examiner.
Her continuous love of dance inspires all students to enjoy the wonderful world of dance.
Katelyn has been with The Dance Centre for 19 years. She has achieved the coveted ISTD Advanced 2 Ballet exam and has won many awards and scholarships throughout her dance career. She has also trained at EDGE Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. She has attended, on scholarship, classes at the Randolph Academy of Performing Arts, Toronto and in 2010 was an apprentice with Extreme Dance Convention. This year Katelyn will be graduating from the nursing program at Red River Community college. She is excited to share her passion for choreography again this year at The Dance Centre.
Katrina began dancing at the age of three. Her professional training has been with the Professional Division at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet where she had the opportunity to perform with the RWB company, participate in choreographic competitions, and study with world renowned instructors. Katrina began to pursue a passion for contemporary dance and choreography, studying with the Winnipeg School of Contemporary Dancers, Senior Professional Division. Katrina is proud to have completed ballet exams in the Cecchetti, Vaganova, and RAD syllabi, and to have studied various modern dance syllabi. She has received performance recognition through many scholarships and awards over the years. She is very excited to explore the avenue of teaching and share her enthusiasm for the art of dance to students of all ages.
|Rebekah Jones AISTD
Rebekah is thrilled to be returning for another season at The Dance Centre. She has trained in jazz, tap, ballet and musical theatre and has completed the Teacher Training Program through the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. She has completed her Intermediate 2 ADAPT jazz and tap exams as well as her Advanced 1 ballet exam in the Cecchetti method. As a triple threat performer, Rebekah has performed at many venues throughout North America including Rainbow Stage, DisneyWorld and Parliament Hill for Canada Day.
Kelsey has trained with The Dance Centre for 13 years in ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, lyrical and tap. She has attended many competitions and conventions in both Canada and the United States. In 2011 Kelsey graduated from Westwood Collegiate with a Dance Major Diploma and received an arts scholarship from the St.James-Assiniboia school division for dance. Currently she is studying at the University of Manitoba in the faculty of Architecture. She is delighted with the opportunity to share her knowledge and passion for the art of dance with the students at The Dance Centre.
Rachel Cooper, an independent dancer, choreographer, and teacher is a graduate of the Senior Professional Program of the School of Contemporary Dancers, and holds a B.A. Honours in Theatre and Drama/Dance and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg. She was awarded the University’s gold medal for her studies. She is also currently the director of the Maples Collegiate Dance department. Rachel began her professional career in Toronto performing with Tilt Sound and Motion. She has a strong foundation in many dance disciplines – modern, ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop- and has had the opportunity to work with a wide range of choreographers in various styles. Her choreography has been awarded on both local and international stages. Rachel continues to attend professional development workshops to further her growth and progress as a dancer and dance educator and is excited to share her love of dance with the students of The Dance Centrte.
Denise has successfully completed grades 2 through 6 R.A.D. Ballet Examinations and studied six years of the I.S.T.D. ballet syllabus at The Dance Centre. Throughout her years as a student she also participated in the Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival. She recently graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law and is working on her Canadian legal practice requirements. Denise is looking forward to sharing her love of dance through teaching at The Dance Centre.
Justin began dancing when he was fifteen years old with his school dance team, Sisler's Most Wanted, and loved it ever since! He has learned various styles of dance including, lyrical, tap, jazz & musical theatre but his passion is hip hop. Justin has achieved numerous awards, including the "People's Choice" award at "Artists Emerge" in Edmonton, Alberta. He currently dances for The Project Company and choreographs for UN1TE Dance Company. Justin is excited to share his passion and inspire all students with what he does best. Dance!
Taylor has been dancing for 19 years. As a former student and assistant at The Dance Centre she has trained in jazz, ballet, tap, hip-hop, modern and lyrical. Throughout her student years, Taylor attended many dance conventions and competitions such as Triple Threat, LADF and The Pulse. She has competed at the Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival winning numerous awards. Taylor is also a student at the University of Manitoba where she is pursuing her Bachelors of Kinesiology for Athletic Therapy. She has a great passion for dance, fitness and health and is thrilled to be teaching at The Dance Centre!
Kasmira grew up at the Dance Centre first beginning Preschool ballet with her mother and won the Provincial Dance Festival ballet scholarship at 6 years of age. For the past 25 the years she has trained in ballet, jazz lyrical and hip hop. She has trained with and assisted at the EDGE Performing Arts Centre and performed with Carnival, “Shall We Dance”, TV commercials and other performances. She was one of the first choreographers to introduce Hip Hop in Winnipeg and set the standard for other teachers and choreographers to follow. Her choreography in Lyrical and Hip Hop has won many awards locally and internationally. Her passion for dance continues even though she is on leave while she pursues her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, at University of Laverne in Los Angeles.
